About the Relationship:
The Houston-Guayaquil Sister City Association coordinates many programs focusing on health care, civic engagement, arts and culture. In 2004, the association twice hosted the Vice President of Ecuador opening the door to collaboration between Ecuador and Methodist Hospital. They have worked with Medical Bridges, a non-profit organization which donates medical supplies, and the Houston Fire Department, which donates used fire equipment to sister cities, to send aid to Guayaquil.
The association hosts several cultural programs throughout the year including recitals and dance performances. These events have previously included visiting student performers from Guayaquil.
